The end SARS #ENDSARS protest in Nigeria has gained a lot of momentum as many Nigerians have taken to the streets in several States to protest against the Special Anti-robbery unit of the Police force (SARS) for mistreating the people and violating the basic human rights of citizens on numerous occasions. Internationally recognized individuals, brands, and organizations such as Kanye West (Good Music), Jack Dorsey (Twitter), Davido, etc have lent their voices to the struggle to end police excesses in Nigeria. Musicians have not been left out, as is the norm, music is meant to carry the message of the people and speak the language of the people hence many musicians have spoken up.

This is not the first time we have written about The Nigerian Police. There have been numerous reports of people being kidnapped and abducted against their will, extrajudicial killings, armed robbery, and theft of people’s personal effects like money, laptops, phones, etc have emerged from Africa’s most populous nation. That is why the citizens have decided to take to the streets to express their anger and disappointment at the Government for not taking appropriate actions to clamp down on members of the Special Antirobbery Unit of the police for their excesses.

Artists like Fefe Blanko, Terry Apala, and Acetune have released singles describing the ordeal the Nigerian youth is facing in the hands of the Police and the Government in general. The playlist below is dedicated to music released during the protest and that addresses the struggle.

DJ Smart is out again with another banger. This mix is thoughtfully put together to create butterflies in your stomach. All you need to do is plug a headphone and the hit play button. This one is one to go on a road trip with and you will not know how you got to your destination. Volume 1. was a hit and volume 2. sounds even fresher.

DJ Smart describes himself as an Afrobeats Dj from Indianapolis USA, but one thing I could deduce from listening to his mix is that he has great ears for good music. His new release “Smart’s Mix Vol 2” is filled with premium Afrobeats and Alté vibes from several African countries. I really enjoyed the quality and content of the mix and the transitions are so seamless and smooth. It is well put together.

The music business is a very lucrative business. Revenues can stack up quickly and profit can run into millions of dollars, but it is also a pretty unpredictable business and many artists are unable to reach their full potential mainly due to the fact that they do not have the capital to cover the expenses associated with running a healthy music business. This is the reason companies such as Pinaza records take the initiative to set up structures that can ensure the success of talented youths in Nigeria.

Pinaza Records is owned by Architect, businessman, Philanthropist, and renowned human rights activist Chief Piniki Azaiye. The company launched in 2019 with the aim of taking artists in the Niger-delta to the next level. They have been involved in numerous entertainment-related projects in the Niger-delta already including The Homecoming of Elvis Poko which was hosted in conjunction with Africa Magic, The Pinaza unveiling which featured Harrysong, Niger-delta Ijaw day and award night in conjunction with alterplate records and Wafftv, and more recently, the Wizkid live in Warri concert that failed to hold due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.

2020 has been a really difficult year for creatives. Therefore, we should throw our support behind artists like vibetone who are putting out good music at this time.

New Jersey based Afro-beat brand vibetone is out with a new song titled “Oskambo”. Vibetone is riding on the wave created by his previous singles as he follows up with a very catchy vibe. Oskambo is a blend of Afro-beat and high-life elements fused together by DXL his usual collaborator.

When I do get a hold of him, I definitely want to know the meaning of Oskambo but you can make up your own meaning by listening attentively to the song.
