When conversations spark off debates about who the best rappers in Africa are , for some reason Kenyan rappers do not seem to be a part of the conversation , they are often overlooked . I have been following Khaligraph Jones for some years now , this dude seems to be legitimately one of the top 5 rappers in Africa for a long time, but he is highly underrated . Maybe his social media campaign ( Play Kenyan music ) is going to change that, because you need airplay and your people behind you to actually gun for best.
I listened to a recent interview he had in Nigeria where he stated that Nigerian musicians get more airplay in Kenya than indigenous acts . Let me quickly point out that this was the same situation in Nigeria years ago when OAP’S preferred to play foreign music at the expense of the vastly talented local acts . Things started to change in Nigeria when Kennis music came on board . They used their media influence to change the perception of Nigerian music on Nigerian radio stations . Since then , the fortune of Nigerian acts have changed home and abroad , many of them now enjoy a level of international acceptance .
Khaligraph Jones teams up with Nigeria’s Superstar Ycee to deliver one of Africa’s best rap collaborations in a long time . Watch below
